What our members say...

Ive come across plenty of business networks in my years running professional football clubs and in consultancy; most are good, but this one is exceptional. The level of professional organisation and engagement of The Business Network makes me want to contribute my own experience and contacts. In turn, I expect to learn what's going on in the region and pick up new ways of doing things - supporting each other in this way benefits everyone.

Seminar: From event venue to Nightingale Centre
Presenter - Shaun Hinds

A look back over 3 weeks between March and April 2020 where we converted the Manchester Central Convention Centre into a Nightingale Hospital. We?ll also look back at some of other chapters in the history of the Manchester Central starting with its original role as a railway terminal. We?ll also look to the future and touch on the reasons why Manchester needs to host world class events if it?s to meet its ambition of a leading global city

We will reflect on the history of the venue and use more recent PowerPoint slides and video to chart the construction of the nightingale hospital. We will spend some time on how the venue has changed over the years whilst remaining true to its central purpose, no pun intended!

Shaun is Chief Executive of Manchester Central and in addition to running the business day to day, works as part of the Manchester family to attract leading events into the city. In addition he is a board member with two industry associations as well as other local venue of historical interest, Victoria baths.

Originally from Newmarket in Suffolk, he moved to the North West initially for a role with another Manchester Institution, The Co-op. Prior to taking the helm of Manchester Central, He spent 4 years with Bridge Street Global Hospitality overseeing their portfolio of hotels and serviced apartments in EMEA and APAC.

Seminar: Authentic Communication Toolkit (ACT) Workshop
Presenter - Vanessa Cobb - Commercial Writer and Creative Director - Words Your Own Ltd
How to Compile Your Authentic Communication Toolkit for Building Business Relationships

The global pandemic delivered a revolution of change across every business sector, with 45% of UK small businesses pivoting in response.*

In a world of unprecedented change, how can we continue to build trust, deliver value and demonstrate reliability across our network?

The answer lies in authentic communication and transparent accountability. It has never been more important to build open and honest business relationships as we strive to re-grow and build back from our shared experience.

In this lively, interactive seminar, participants will follow steps towards compiling their own personalised kit of communication tools, each serving a unique role for building business relationships, to support their newly emerging business marketing and networking goals.

The A.C.T. toolkit will include:
  • Optimising your professional profile online.
  • Gaining greater knowledge and understanding of others? needs.
  • Expressing challenge and disappointment in a constructive way.
  • Recognising and employing virtual and live resources for networking.
  • Preparing case studies to amplify your build-back offer.
In 2020, Vanessa Cobb repositioned her business away from leadership training and coaching to focus on creative and commercial writing services, and Words Your Own was born. She believes it was the best move she ever made, one which would not have been possible without the continued support of The Business Network.
Join us to explore how to capture the power of your own words in meeting your evolving business goals in 2022.

*As early as 6 months after the first lockdown, a survey by Goldman Sachs revealed that 45% of small business owners identified the need to pivot their business offer in some way. This involved adopting new technology, expanding existing product lines, launching completely new products and services or creating entirely new business models.
